Why Kingsilver?

Margaret Thatcher famously responded to criticism from a member of the British Socialist Party who asked how she could defend and justify her economic policies that had resulted in the gap between richest 10% and poorest 10% widening substantially:

"All levels of income are better off than they were in 1979. But what the honourable member is saying is that he would rather the poor were poorer provided the rich were less rich." - Margaret Thatcher

While income inequality is inevitable in a successful capitalist economy, the degree to which that inequality is a result of inequalities in opportunity—i.e, the rich becoming richer in ways that are closed to everyone else—is where the true injustice lies, and is the degree to which justified resentment can endanger the stability of the society.

A more just society, then, is a society in which there is more equality of opportunity, regardless of your economic situation or background.
